About

  • English
    • The Notre-Dame de la Course Landaise chapel, located in Bascons, is a unique place of worship dedicated to the Course Landaise , a traditional bullfighting sport of the region.

Dating from the 15th century and built of shell stones, it has been entirely dedicated to this practice since the 1970s. The interior of the chapel reflects this attachment: a stained-glass window represents a spreader, the altar is supported by a wooden cow forehead, and the candle holder is in the shape of an arena. Every year, on Ascension Day, the chapel welcomes a pilgrimage of the coursayres , the enthusiasts of the Landes race, who come to meditate and pay homage to their deceased figures. This place bears witness to the strong link between the Landes sporting tradition and spirituality.
