Préchacq-les-Bains and its amazing Madame hole

Join us for a stroll in Préchacq-les-Bains, a town centered around water in all its forms! A seaside resort, Préchacq boasts a thermal spa offering treatments for respiratory ailments and rheumatism. Its waters possess unique properties, and we also invite you to discover a fascinating local water and geological feature, nestled in the heart of the forest: the Trou de Madame (Madame's Hole )!

Visit Préchacq-les-Bains

The commune of Préchacq-les-Bains is quite spread out, and to truly explore it, you need to visit several distinct areas, each a few kilometers apart: the town center, the old town, the forest, and the thermal baths. To do this, we followed the brochure from the Association l'Avoir, which offers the Piedschacquoise, a 10km walk highlighting the commune's unique features and points of interest. It can also be found at the Terres de Chalosse Tourist Office.

Leave your car in the main village; there's a small square with the community center. There you'll also find a sports hall and a school complex with the town hall, which has allowed all the students to be brought together in one place. In these small villages, schools are often scattered! The village boasts some pretty traditional Landes houses, recognizable by their roofs that slope very close to the ground and their colorful or exposed half-timbering. You'll first cross the Louts River, which flows into the Adour a little further on. Along the way, you'll see wash houses, a small piece of local heritage specific to the village, which is truly centered around water. The Hountine Wash House, the Hourn Wash House… You'll reach the old village center, where the village church is located (which is therefore not near the current village center).

This was the first spa resort in the town! At the beginning of the 20^th century, this thermal spring was housed in a stone structure designed to capture the sulphurous waters that emerged at around 30 degrees Celsius. Imagine, there was a two-story hotel here, with rooms, a boiler, and so on. The spring has a beautiful bluish color and a characteristic sulfurous odor. It is said that its waters treat skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Please note, the water is clear but not drinkable!

The thermal baths of Préchacq-les-Bains

Continue your walk to the thermal spa, passing along Avenue des Sources. It is managed by the Chaine Thermale du Soleil. The spa cultivates its own mud, extracting silt from the nearby Adour river.

You can come for medically prescribed treatments for rheumatism or respiratory problems. Additional activities can be added to enhance the benefits of the treatment, and a fitness area allows you to stay in shape during your stay. The residence is quiet, family-friendly, and pleasant.
