A nature break at the Nerbis Lakes

We're taking you on a short getaway to discover the Nerbis Lakes ! On the banks of the Adour River, which is the central artery of this region of Chalosse in the Landes, the Nerbis Lakes are a little paradise for fishermen, wildlife and plant lovers, and walkers.

The lakes of Nerbis

Two 16-hectare ponds have been created from the exploitation of former gravel pits and quarries. In ancient times, crops were planted in the Adour riverbed to take advantage of the mineral-rich soil and the decomposing vegetation. Today, the quarries have become ponds, which have been developed for fishing and the enjoyment of all. A whole ecosystem is emerging in this new space, ready to be explored! The two ponds allow everyone (in compliance with the regulations for these second-category fishing areas) to practice catch -and-release fishing. Picnic tables and pathways for pedestrians and anglers have been provided.

The village of Nerbis is situated above the lakes. It sits at a record altitude of 103 meters ! This is one of the greatest elevation changes in the Landes region. In fact, a walking trail (5 to 6 km) starts from the Saint-Pierre church and leads towards the lakes; it's one of the hilliest in the Landes. Nerbis is on the Vézelay route to Santiago de Compostela, making it a popular stop for pilgrims.

What to do around Nerbis?

• Discover Chalosse ! Take a bike ride along the Adour greenway or drive from fortified town to small village. It's a peaceful region, perfect for relaxation.
• Visit the village of Mugron, and don't forget its lake for swimming and having fun this time.
• Nearby is Monfort-en-Chalosse, which is also worth a visit.
• Still in Chalosse and towards Tursan, you will enjoy visiting Hagetmau and the pretty bastide of Geaune.
