The 5 most beautiful markets in the Landes region

The Dax market

We begin our gourmet getaway at the Dax market, the largest in the Landes region, just 30 minutes from Capbreton. The covered market welcomes you for a sensory journey from Tuesday to Sunday, 7 am to 7 pm (closed Sunday afternoon). If you'd like to sample local and regional products, it's in the heart of the city that greengrocers, cheesemongers, poultry farmers, and fishmongers fill their stalls daily, with an additional market on Saturday mornings from 7 am to 1 pm in Place Roger Ducos, offering an open-air experience. Blending tradition and modernity, these gourmet gatherings are brimming with fresh, high-quality ingredients to delight your taste buds throughout the week.

The Peyrehorade market

In Peyrehorade, you can stroll through the oldest market in the Landes region every Wednesday morning, a tradition that has continued since 1358. A true gathering of merchants, more than 100 local producers and artisans enliven the aisles of Place du Sablot, near Place Aristide Briand. Under the market hall, poultry is showcased year-round, while the foie gras market sets up from October to March to display Landes duck.

The Capbreton market

North of Biarritz and Bayonne, Capbreton is lively all year round with its many gourmet events:

  • The market at Les Halles and Allées Marines is held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Sundays are reserved exclusively for food). During the summer season, from June 15th to September 15th, this traditional market extends to the Allées Marines during the same hours to offer even more local flavors.
  • The city's main asset remains its fish market, Quai Georges Pompidou at the foot of the harbor master's office, open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. depending on the arrivals (with a break between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.), guaranteeing exceptional freshness.
  • To add variety to your enjoyment, the town centre hosts a local produce and craft market every Friday evening from 8pm to 11pm, complemented in July and August by night markets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the same times.

These convivial moments, the times of which may vary depending on the weather, are unmissable opportunities to discover the riches of the region and delight your taste buds.

The Saint-Roch market in Mont-de-Marsan

We venture a little inland to discover one of the 100 most beautiful markets in France, in Mont-de-Marsan. Every Tuesday and Saturday morning, all your senses are awakened to smell, see, taste, and touch the typical Landes products displayed on the stalls. Vegetables, poultry, flowers, and local produce —the stands are enticing and tempting when lunchtime arrives. Choose your favorite ingredients and enjoy; the market is open year-round.

The Mimizan market

Heading leisurely back towards Biscarrosse, we stopped in Mimizan to discover its many culinary delights. Throughout the year, local specialties fill the town center on Place Félix Poussade every Friday from 8 am to 1 pm, while over at Mimizan Plage, a market now welcomes you year-round from Thursday to Sunday, 8 am to 1 pm. The excitement intensifies even further during the summer season: in July and August, the covered market at the beach becomes a daily event, open from 8 am to 2 pm, complementing the night markets that enliven the evenings of July and August on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Whether for a morning stroll or a summer outing, these stalls, whose hours sometimes adapt to the weather and the season, remain the beating heart of local life to delight your taste buds.
