Brassempouy Guided tours of the Landes village

The picturesque village of Brassempouy, overlooking the Chalosse hills, is known for its archaeological site. You can visit:

• The Brassempouy Prehistoric Site which presents objects from the archaeological excavations carried out in the Pope's Cave.
• ArchéoParc dedicated to prehistoric techniques.

But it was primarily the Middle Ages that shaped the village of Brassempouy. Indeed, the very construction of the village dates back to the 12th century. It is laid out as a linear village: the houses are aligned around a main street, closed off on one side by the castle (the one visible today dates from the 18th-19th centuries) and on the other by the church. The village was attacked by French troops during the Hundred Years' War, when Aquitaine was under English rule.

By the way: in the region: pronounce it "Brassempouille".

Guided tours of the village and church are offered all year round for groups of 10 people minimum.
