      AROUND THE EXHIBITION

      • Sunday, March 23 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Conference “Art Deco in France”

Dominique DUSSOL, professor emeritus at the University of Pau and the Adour region.

A lifestyle? A fashion? An art of living? A mentality? An era? Art Deco is a bit of all of these things. This 20-year interlude (1919-1939) began, ravaged by the First World War, and ended under the threat of the Second. In this frantic race against time, an entire generation expressed its desire to turn a page, to place its hopes in progress, and to plan for its newfound freedom, in an unbridled and frenetic manner.

      • Sunday, April 6 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Conference “René Buthaud (1886-1986): a look back at a virtuoso ceramist”

Étienne TORNIER, head of modern and contemporary collections at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Bordeaux

Born in 1886, René Buthaud is one of the major French ceramists of the 20th century. His vases, with their simple shapes and stylized decorations, were a great success in Parisian art circles from the very beginning. Curious and sensitive, René Buthaud was as interested in African art as he was in tin-glazed earthenware from the Southwest, and in 16th-century Mannerist paintings. Drawing on the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design in Bordeaux, pieces held in private collections, and archives, this conference will present the career of this outstanding ceramist, whose work profoundly influenced the interwar art scene and the Art Deco movement.

Free meetings. Access by reservation only, subject to availability. Live streaming on the museum's social media channels.

      • Saturday, May 17 - EUROPEAN NIGHT OF MUSEUMS

      Samadet Swing: a crazy evening!

World-renowned specialists Anne-Hélène and Bernard Cavasa will host the day with an introduction to swing and blues dancing. In the evening, they will be accompanied by the sextet The Raggedy Junkers, who will perform a special 1930s repertoire, to the delight of foxtrot and Charleston dancers. It's an opportunity to discover Louis Dage's Art Deco ceramics in a joyful and creative atmosphere!

From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Introduction to 1930s dance – Included in the admission price.
