Spring Break: Tourist Sites to See the First Buds
Top start! It's spring and with it, the mild weather returns. The sun isn't quite here yet, but we're keeping faith, it's coming back for good! The Landes department owes its name to its vegetation and especially to its forest, which is the largest in France. It covers more than half of the department and is made up of conifers, including the maritime pine. While this landscape changes little from one season to the next, apart from the ferns and a few other species that survive on the sandy, acidic soil at the foot of the pines, this is not the case in Chalosse. This part is the most hilly and vegetated in the department, where crops and a few vines green the landscape. Near the sea, the natural environment is made up of low vegetation and plants whose purpose is to hold back the dunes and stabilize the sand.
We have selected some ideas for walks for you to enjoy nature waking up and listen to the little birds singing.
Visit the Brassempouy Prehistoric Site
If you are near Brassempouy, do not miss a visit to a beautiful museum space, in a green setting. You will learn a lot about regional archaeological discoveries and life in the region in prehistoric times. During the holidays and from the summer season, cultural mediators are available to offer workshops for young and old. Hikes on foot or by car take you to discover the caves.
Meet the butterflies
Au Paradis du Papillon in Sanguinet is a tropical greenhouse that offers total immersion in an ecosystem where hundreds of exotic butterflies roam freely. Located on the road to Bordeaux, this space is much more than just an exhibition: it is a living space where you can observe the life cycle of butterflies up close, from their hatching from chrysalises from all over the world (Asia, Africa, the Americas) to their graceful flight among visitors. The greenhouse is also home to lush flora and other species, such as birds and fish, making it a highly appreciated sensory and educational experience, especially for families.
