On the road to Biscarrosse, in Sanguinet, I see the sign for the Butterfly Paradise. I decide to stop there to discover the exceptional flora and fauna.

The Butterfly Paradise is a greenhouse housing numerous species of butterflies from around the world. Tours are guided, allowing visitors to avoid missing out on certain species that are sometimes hidden by the flora.

Butterfly Paradise, a unique visit

I begin my visit with the hatchery. I see several tropical chrysalides at different stages of development. The cocoon hatches and the butterfly escapes. It's extraordinary to see this evolution; they take several months to develop in total, with a lifespan of just three to four weeks.

I continue on my way and the owner of the place shows me the leaves of the lemon trees. I don't notice anything at first. If he hadn't warned me, I would have passed by the caterpillars that have taken on the color of the leaves: hiding to avoid being eaten. I then understand the mimicry of the caterpillars. I pass near the cocoons of the moths whose wingspan impresses me (around 30cm)!!

Butterfly paradise, a greenhouse and aquarium not to be missed

I wander through the greenhouse aisles, several butterflies fly around me, they even land on my hand. It's fascinating and quite magical! I even have fun following them to take pictures, they are the guides after all!

I then head into an annex room of the greenhouse which houses the aquarium: I meet Nemo and Dory, I discover species of exotic fish like the catfish, the piranha or the giraffe fish ! In addition to all this little world, there are the millipedes as well as the praying mantises. I discover fascinating species like the flower or leaf praying mantis. I had never seen such specimens!!!! A short film on the butterfly cycle is shown in this room, it lasts about twenty minutes. It is quite fun and educational, it is ideal for children! A poster also tells me that the wings of several species of butterflies can be used to recreate the alphabet: nature is well done!

Butterfly paradise, nature's passion

Next to the aquarium, a small garden is open. Access is permitted when the butterfly trees are in bloom to allow the butterflies to roam freely. I rediscover the magic of the greenhouse, I am surrounded by butterflies of all kinds, each one as beautiful as the next!

I spent just an hour touring the greenhouse, but I was so amazed that I could have stayed for hours. The owners are truly passionate and eager to share their knowledge. They explain everything in detail and are attentive to visitors. Children will also have fun discovering all these beautiful species and the life of this flying nature that we encounter every day!

Enjoy your visit!
