About

  • English
    • The Ecomusée de Marquèze was created in 1969 by the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park. It is one of the very first ecomuseums in France. Its mission is to conserve, study and pass on the heritage of the Grande Lande by reconstructing the living environment of its inhabitants in the 19th century.

150 years ago, this original society of shepherds-farmers was in such symbiosis with its environment that it disappeared when the moor gave way to the forest. Marquèze tells the story of this unique link between a society and its environment, its economic, cultural or social consequences in one of the largest open-air museums in France.

Demonstrations of know-how and techniques from the past.

Every day, we invite you to discover the know-how in use in a Landes district in 1890. You will be able to discover different aspects of daily life with the mediators of the ecomuseum. To find your way around, a tour guide is given to you free of charge at the reception of the ecomuseum.
