    • Discover the Seaplane Museum, a scientific and technical museum

The Biscarrosse Seaplane Museum, a four-season municipal cultural and tourist establishment with the Musée de France designation and the Qualité Tourisme state label, is a place of remembrance of the Latécoère Seaplane assembly and testing base, but also of commemoration of a century of aeronautical history.

In 1930, Pierre-Georges Latécoère chose Biscarrosse for its lake protected by the dune cordon, 10km long and wide, allowing the large transatlantic seaplanes to take off or land there regardless of the wind direction. This configuration would make Biscarrosse an international hub during the golden age of seaplanes. It was the beginning of a unique story , forever associating Biscarrosse with seaplanes.

The Museum team welcomes you to the heart of historic buildings on 1250m2 of exhibition space where you will discover more than 3000 collection pieces : restored seaplanes, uniforms, models, graphic arts, archive documents, objects etc.

A fun and interactive visit to the Seaplane Museum

Supporting the public in discovering the collections is the subject of a vast cultural mediation program.

Whether for an individual visit or a family visit to the Seaplane Museum, the team offers several tools to help you with your visit:

      • Complete and detailed visitor assistance sheets that will allow you to easily move around the different pavilions. Because the Seaplane Museum welcomes visitors from all over the world, we provide everyone with sheets in four languages: French, English, Spanish, German.

      • A free mobile application with three tour routes. Visite musée is a collaborative project between the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Alienor.org - Conseil des Musées, the IUT of La Rochelle, the museums of Poitiers and Grands Poitiers. The application was developed by students in computer science and marketing whose professional licenses LPCDTL (Web and mobile development), MASERTIC (Marketing of Services and Information and Communication Technologies) and LPCM (Multimedia Creation). This initiative is unique in France because it offers a common tool to all museums in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

Because written cultural mediation is not suitable for all audiences, the Seaplane Museum also offers tailor-made guided tours : schools, families, leisure centers, disabled people, etc. The guided group tour can be provided in French, English and German by reservation only.

For any group visit request, with or without a guide, reservation is required at least 1 month before the desired date. Please contact the Museum directly by telephone on 05 58 78 00 65 or by email .

Fascinating history of (predominantly) French flying boats and seaplanes, but always with reference to international developments. Very interesting and educational especially for those of us brought up only on UK/US planes. Plenty of relics, photos, documents etc. Well laid out with English translations to many exhibits plus multilingual explanatory sheets to many areas.

Explore the development of waterplanes. You will have an experience from the early 1900-1960. There are scale models, mock-ups, clothing, explanations. It’s nice to see the development of technic and comfort

Very well explanations and great storyline. TVs are not configured properly so you can’t watch the documentaries, the hangar is packed so you can barely see the planes
