Abbaye d'Arthous

Former abbey founded in the 12th century at the confluence of the Landes, the Basque Country and Béarn, Arthous is revealed today as a place inhabited over time. Occupied by Premonstratensian canons until the Revolution, the abbey was transformed into a farm before becoming a Historic Monument.

Today, the Abbey opens its doors to you from April to November to tell you about its many lives...

Arthous Abbey is open:

• From April 1 to April 30 from 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
• From June 1 to September 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

• From October 1 to November 15 from 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
• Closed Mondays, May 1, November 1 and 11.

• "Once upon a time Arthous" - exhibition
Presented in the former cells of the canons, this exhibition recounts the 800 years of the monument's history.

• "Premontré celebrates its 900th anniversary. An abbey, an order, a history, 1121-2021" - exhibition from April 1 to May 31
This exhibition traces the history of the Premonstratensian Order which founded Arthous Abbey.
Implemented by the Center for Premonstratensian studies and research, the abbeys of Leffe and Juaye-Mondaye, it is illustrated by 300 photographs and maps covering all the continents.

• "Ichtus" by Daniel Mestanza - exhibition from June 18 to October 16
The exhibition “Ichtus” (fish – Christian symbol of Antiquity) is composed of a myriad of luminous and moving fish suspended in the air. This staging is accompanied by a sound immersion to stimulate our senses.
A stroll in the heart of a dreamlike and hypnotic world, a return to contemplation and meditation, an enchanted parenthesis!
