About

  • English
    • The Landes de Gascogne Regional Natural Park is a vast protected area extending across the departments of Landes and Gironde. Created in 1970, it is the result of a desire to preserve the balance between nature and human activity. This territory is characterized by its maritime pine forest, the largest in Europe, but also by its rivers, such as the Leyre nicknamed the "little Amazon", and its lagoons hidden in the heart of the massif.

Beyond its landscapes, the park is a hotspot for biodiversity. Remarkable flora and fauna can be observed there, ranging from the European otter to the short-toed eagle, including numerous species of dragonflies.

The park offers a multitude of activities for visitors: canoeing down the Leyre, hiking or cycling along forest trails, or even exploring the Marquèze ecomuseum. The latter, a hamlet dating back to the end of the 19th century, provides an insight into the traditional way of life of the Grande Lande. The park represents a unique balance between the preservation of its natural heritage and the development of sustainable tourism.
