The beach, swimming and walking

Of course you know it, a nice day at the beach is free! Bring a picnic to control your budget, a beach towel, some games for the children and that's it! To save money, the secret is to arrive with everything you need, so that you only have to enjoy the immensity of the dunes, the beauty of the waves and relaxation under your parasol.

In terms of beach, in the Landes we are the champions. Ocean dune beaches, but also beaches on freshwater lakes, there is something for everyone and the idea remains the same: have fun for free!

Read our articles related to the beaches of the Landes, to make your choice and never run out of ideas where to put your towel:

Go for a walk, a stroll, a hike in the Landes

The Landes are a true paradise for walkers, but also for families. It is rather flat (except in Chalosse), sheltered when walking in the forest and the paths are well marked. You can also bring your bike or simply walk along the many cycle paths in the Landes. Find out from the Tourist Offices which offer walks with interpretive panels, it's a good way to walk while having fun, learning and it gives children a goal. All of this is free!

Free treasure hunts

Do you know geocatching? All parents should know about this wonderful way to get children walking without tiring them out or dragging them! In New Aquitaine, we have the “Tèrra Aventura”, a series of treasure hunts, orchestrated by the Poïzs, which allows you to stroll while learning about nature, heritage and the history of the places visited. Download the free application on your Smartphone and let's go!

Go and meet producers and artisans

Producers and artisans are often organized tours of their operation, farm or workshop. Come and meet them, it's a moment of authentic and sincere sharing. Take an interest in their profession, in their love for their land. Visits are often (not always, find out beforehand) free, followed by a tasting and the possibility of buying good products. Ouiiiii the shop it will be paying, but it is necessary to eat well and as much as it comes from a short circuit and that it is in season, is not it? Consult our section on visits and tastings!

The advice of the Guide des Landes: Remember to make picnic baskets to save money during your stay. A good country bread in pie format lasts several days. A piece of cheese, a slice of dried duck breast, some fruit from the orchard and let's go!

Go to the market

The market is a place full of colors, animation, joie de vivre. In the Landes, there are many regional products that are worth seeing, we have very beautiful markets which are real moments of relaxation to share with the children. Here are the Landes market places. There are all the food trades, but also in season, artists and craftsmen. In the summer we have wonderful night markets and country farmers' markets (in the evening).

Advice from the Landes guide: Are you a little tight on your budget? Pull some cash (give the kids a few pennies if you can, they'll be so proud) and restrict yourself as well. If you buy food, it doesn't count, we said you have to eat well! The most beautiful markets in the Landes are (it's subjective and not exhaustive!): in Dax on Saturday morning, in Roquefort on Saturday morning, the covered market on Place Saint-Roch in Mont de Marsan (especially on Saturday morning)

To go further: Consult the Agenda du Guide des Landes to find markets, gourmet markets, flea markets, house sales, village festivals, fireworks and other joyful events!

Visiting the towns and villages of the Landes

It's the same kind of classic as hikes, but it's so true! A nice walk in a seaside town or inland Landes, or a walk in a village, it takes up a whole day and you can combine that with a moment of swimming and even a morning market to make a combo! Children like to walk around villages on average, don't they? So to help them, ask the Tourist Offices for a map of the town, in many villages there are games, riddles, storytelling walks, interpretive panels for fauna and flora...
