A la fois sur le "camin roumiou" et sur le "camin aoulhié" (routes des pèlerins et de la transhumance), la traversée de ces villages était difficile pour les pèlerins de Compostelle comme pour les bergers. Eglises, hôpitaux, chapelles, fontaines témoignent de leur présence. C'est ici aussi que l'on aurait vu naître les premières bergeries courbes, bâties en demi-lune.
