The marine lake of Port d'Albret

The Marine Lake of Port d'Albret is an artificial lake, which collects the waters of the Soustons Current. These beaches are very popular with families. You take advantage of the calm waters to let the little ones wade and play in the sand. And you have the charm of the tides to collect seashells. To the south are Soustons Plage and its nautical center. You can rent a pedal boat or a stand up paddle there and why not join the island which stands in the center of the lake. Be discreet! It is a totally wild space where you can observe birds, but you must not disturb them.

To the north, on the Vieux-Boucau side and its two beaches: the North beach and the Lac beach. It has a playground, a volleyball court, a paddle center and toilets. At the other end of the beach, you will find restaurants, snacks and ice cream parlors. A bouncy castle is set up there during the summer.

On foot or by bike, you can also go around the lake. To the south, the setting is natural and the banks are preserved. To the north, you walk along Vieux-Boucau. It's a more urban part, but also more lively. A bridge spans the Courant de Soustons to allow you to completely circle the lake.

Soustons, ocean side

The Ocean Beach is a long beach that stretches over the entire coastline of the town. It is bounded to the north by the Soustons Current. It is extended to the south by the beaches of Hossegor. It is a beach that will appeal to lovers of unspoiled nature. It is bordered by a dune cordon, which separates it from the Landes forest. On the other hand, it is more difficult to access for families, because there is a long walk to reach it. The parking lot is far from the beach. There are no shops or restaurants nearby.

It is popular with surfers. Indeed, it is a beachbreak. In Messanges, you will find a surf school, as well as in Moliets.

The Soustons Pond

Fed by several streams, this large stretch of water, elongated in shape, stretches to form the Soustons Current, which flows into the ocean at the level of the Lac Marin de Port d'Albret. On one side of its banks, stretches the town of Soustons. On the other side, it is a very natural and preserved space.

With the family, relaxation is at the rendezvous at the Laurens base. Ella is home to the Soustons Marensin Sailing Club. You can learn the basics of navigation, register your children for a sailing course, rent an optimist, a catamaran or a caravel.

A walk on the Pointe des Vergnes is one of Soustons' must-see outings. This kind of peninsula in the heart of the pond offers you an exceptional view of the other bank of the pond, which is wilder. Cyclist or hiker, the paths of the Parc des Vergnes are pleasant and shaded.

To appreciate all the facets of the pond, go to the Evad Sport, near the Pointe des Vergnes. To discover it from the inside, you can rent stand up paddles or canoes-kayaks. It is also a tree climbing park, which will allow you to gain height to appreciate its full extent. Right next door there is also a skatepark.

The Hardy, White and Black ponds and the Black Pond Nature Reserve

The three Hardy, White and Black ponds form a wetland that runs along the Landes coast. Only the Black Pond is officially classified as a National Nature Reserve, but the surroundings of the other ponds also have an interesting flora and fauna.

The Hardy Pond is located in the town of Soustons. It is very well preserved because its banks are less accessible. In the town of Seignosse, L'Étang Blanc is equipped and offers many leisure activities. Swimming is authorized there, as well as water sports, such as canoeing or boat trips. Also in Seignosse, the Etang Noir Nature Reserve has a landscaped walking path, with wooden footbridges, which prevent damage to the natural environment, and pontoons that overlook the lake and allow discreet observation of the birds. If you are on the lookout, you may come across some Cistude turtles or European minks. In terms of its flora, you can admire beautiful specimens of Marsh Hibiscus.
